Typhoon Odette exits PAR after 9 landfalls

Typhoon Odette, internationally known as Rai, has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) after making nine landfalls.

As of Saturday morning, December 18, the typhoon was located 240 kilometers west northwest of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, moving west northwest at 15 km/h.

Odette maintained maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h before dawn on Saturday, with gustiness up to 185 km/h, though its peak sustained winds were 195 km/h.

The typhoon is expected to pass in the vicinity of the Kalayaan Island Group on Saturday before exiting PAR either in the morning or afternoon.

PAGASA stated that Odette could slightly reintensify over the West Philippine Sea before potentially weakening starting Sunday due to increasing vertical wind shear and the northeast monsoon.

Residents in parts of Luzon and Northern Samar are advised to expect more rain, with the possibility of floods and landslides.
