Typhoon Carina maintains strength, 10 areas under TCWS No. 1

Typhoon Carina maintained its strength on Tuesday with maximum sustained winds of 130 kph and gustiness of up to 160 kph.

Ten areas in Luzon are under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1.

These areas include Batanes, Babuyan Islands, parts of Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Aurora, Polillo Islands, Calaguas Islands, and Catanduanes.

Pagasa stated that minimal to moderate impacts due to strong winds may be experienced within the localities where wind signals are hoisted.

The typhoon was last spotted 380 km east-northeast of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, moving westward.

Carina is forecast to make landfall in the northern portion of Taiwan between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, then exit the Philippine area of responsibility hours later.

The typhoon will induce the southwest monsoon or "habagat," and trigger moderate to intense rainfall over the western portion of Luzon.
