Typhoon Carina intensifies, Taiwan landfall expected

Typhoon Carina has intensified with maximum sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour and gustiness up to 205 km/h.

The typhoon is currently located 345 kilometers north northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, moving north northwestward at 15 km/h.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 is raised over Batanes, while Signal No. 1 is in effect over the Babuyan Islands, northern parts of Cagayan, and northern Ilocos Norte.

Carina is forecast to make landfall over the northern portion of Taiwan on Wednesday afternoon or early evening.

Moderate to heavy rainfall, with accumulated rainfall expected to be between 50-100 millimeters, is anticipated over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands.

Flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible in susceptible areas.

The enhanced southwest monsoon will also bring strong winds to Metro Manila, and monsoon rains over the Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Abra, Benguet, and Occidental Mindoro.
