2 hurt in election violence in Abra

Two individuals sustained gunshot wounds during election-related violence near Sagap Elementary School in Bangued, Abra, on May 12, 2025.

The incident occurred around 7 a.m. as voting for the midterm elections commenced.

Police responding to a commotion heard automatic and semi-automatic gunfire from the riverside.

Two vehicles, a grey pick-up truck and a Montero SUV, were seen leaving the area.

The victims were brought to Seares Memorial Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities are investigating competing claims from partisan groups alleging voter intimidation and vote-buying.

The situation escalated into a firefight upon the arrival of police personnel.
