Tulfo pushes for dedicated student ticket lanes at LRT, MRT

Senator Raffy Tulfo has urged the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to establish dedicated ticket booths or lanes for students at LRT and MRT stations.

This call follows numerous complaints from students regarding the slow and inefficient process of validating their fare discounts.

The DOTr has increased the student fare discount to 50%, but it is only applicable for single journey tickets purchased at the counter, not for beep cards.

Students are reportedly asked to present printed enrollment records if their IDs do not show the current school year.

In addition to showing IDs, students must also manually fill out a form, contributing to long queues.

Tulfo's team conducted on-site inspections and gathered feedback from students facing these difficulties.

He proposed a more efficient verification method and suggested integrating the student discount directly into beep cards.
