DOTr, senators launch dedicated student lanes at MRT-3, LRT-2

Dedicated student lanes have been established at the MRT-3 and LRT-2 stations, as of Friday, July 4, 2025.

These lanes are part of the Department of Transportation's (DOTr) initiative to streamline the process for students availing of a 50% fare discount.

The measure aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to improve commuter experience by eliminating queuing and avoiding inconvenience.

DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon stated that the verification of student discounts should be efficient to ensure a smooth flow for students and prevent them from being late to school.

The implementation of these lanes follows Senator Raffy Tulfo's call for dedicated booths or lanes for students at LRT and MRT stations.

The Light Rail Manila Corporation, operator of LRT-1, will implement queuing systems to manage passenger flow and minimize delays for students.

The 50% student discount, increased from 20%, is effective until 2028.
