Tropical Storm Man-Yi to enter PAR Thursday, may become typhoon

Tropical Storm Man-Yi is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Thursday evening, Nov. 14, and will be locally named Pepito.

As of Wednesday, Nov. 13, Man-Yi was located 1,965 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph and gusts of up to 80 kph.

The storm is forecast to intensify into a severe tropical storm within 24 hours and potentially a typhoon by Thursday afternoon or evening, with the possibility of rapid intensification and reaching super typhoon strength before landfall.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) urged the public to prepare for heavy to intense rains, severe winds, and potential storm surge inundation, especially in Luzon.

The cyclone is expected to make landfall over the eastern coast of Luzon during the weekend, on November 16 or 17.

This will be the 16th tropical cyclone to enter the PAR in 2024 and the fourth for November.
