Tropical Depression Mirasol prompts Signal No. 1 over 17 Luzon provinces

Tropical Depression Mirasol, the 13th storm of the year and third for September, has formed, prompting PAGASA to raise Signal No. 1 over 17 provinces in Luzon.

The affected provinces include Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, northeastern Nueva Vizcaya, northern and central Aurora, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte, northern Ilocos Sur, Polillo Islands, northern Camarines Norte, northeastern Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes.

As of 8 p.m. Tuesday, Mirasol was located 170 kilometers northeast of Infanta, Quezon, maintaining its strength.

The tropical depression is expected to make landfall over Isabela or northern Aurora on Wednesday morning, or may just graze the coast of Central and Northern Luzon.

It is forecast to be over Luzon Strait by Thursday morning and exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Thursday afternoon or evening.

Mirasol is expected to bring moderate to heavy rains over Aurora and parts of Northern Luzon through Thursday afternoon, with potential for flooding and landslides.
