Transport groups ask DOTr for new leaders on modernization program

Major transport groups have urged the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to appoint new officials to lead the Public Transport Modernization Program (PTMP).

In a letter dated March 26, Pasang Masda, Altodap, and ACTO expressed their belief that new leadership with expertise is crucial for the program's acceleration.

The transport groups cited implementation issues as a major factor behind a recent three-day transport strike.

They requested officials who understand the existing problems and can develop effective solutions.

The groups suggested that the PTMP should initially be implemented in financially viable routes.

They also proposed that operators should petition to have their routes declared as modernized, within which they would be compelled to shift to modern jeepneys within 12 months.
