Super Typhoon Leon to bring heavy rains to Batanes, Cagayan

Super Typhoon Leon is projected to bring intense to torrential rainfall, exceeding 200 millimeters, to Batanes, Cagayan, and the Babuyan Islands until Thursday.

Landfall in Batanes remains a possibility as the typhoon is expected to be closest to the province on Thursday morning.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number 3 is in effect for Batanes and the eastern Babuyan Islands.

Heavy to intense rains, ranging from 100 to 200 millimeters, are also anticipated in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Apayao, Abra, Isabela, Occidental Mindoro, Calamian Islands, and Antique.

Moderate to heavy rainfall of 50 to 100 millimeters is forecast for Kalinga, Benguet, Mountain Province, La Union, Pangasinan, and Negros Occidental.

Pagasa warns that these conditions may lead to flooding and landslides, particularly in susceptible areas or those with significant prior rainfall.

Leon was last spotted 215 kilometers east southeast of Basco, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 185 kph and gustiness of up to 230 kph, moving northwestward at 20 kph.
