Sta. Maria town records first COVID-19 case, imposes lockdown on 3 villages

Sta. Maria town in Pangasinan recorded its first COVID-19 case, a 30-year-old locally stranded individual (LSI) who traveled from Quezon City.

In response to the new case, three villages in Sta. Maria – Paitan, Cauplasan, and Samon – were placed under total lockdown by the town mayor to prevent virus spread.

The patient was tested on June 1 as part of targeted mass testing for front-liners and LSIs and is currently in the town's isolation facility.

Contact tracing is underway for individuals exposed to the patient.

As of Friday morning, Pangasinan has a total of 59 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 33 recoveries, 17 admitted patients, and nine deaths.
