Speaker Velasco wants probe on Cagayan floods to focus on solutions

Speaker Lord Allan Velasco wants the House of Representatives' investigation into the Cagayan floods to prioritize finding long-term solutions rather than assigning blame.

The House Committee on Agriculture and Food's upcoming inquiry aims to gather facts that will lead to corrective actions and provide a clearer picture of the events surrounding Typhoon Ulysses.

Velasco emphasized the need to develop solutions and potential legislation to prevent future loss of lives and property during typhoons.

The investigation will explore ways to improve disaster preparedness protocols before natural disasters occur.

He noted that Typhoon Ulysses brought extreme rainfall, causing dam operators to release waters that flooded nearby areas, particularly in Cagayan province due to releases from Magat Dam.

The panel will begin its investigation by inviting officials from the National Irrigation Administration and the local governments of Cagayan and Isabela.
