Sotto III mulls VP run in 2022

Senate President Vicente Sotto III is considering running for vice president in the 2022 national elections, though he also indicated a preference for retiring from politics.

He stated that he is considering a higher office, unlike other politicians who deny running but file their candidacy later.

Sotto mentioned he might announce his decision by the third quarter of the year, after President Rodrigo Duterte's final State of the Nation Address in July.

A significant factor in his decision would be if the role of the Vice President could be enhanced, such as by assigning them the task of addressing illegal drugs and drug abuse.

According to a December 2020 Pulse Asia survey, Sotto ranked third among preferred vice presidential bets for the 2022 polls.

Sotto affirmed his support for Senator Panfilo Lacson's presidential bid, stating he would support him if he runs.
