PDP-Laban urges Duterte to run for VP in 2022 polls

The national council of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) has formally adopted a resolution urging President Rodrigo Duterte to run for vice president in the 2022 elections, with President Duterte ordering Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi to convene the assembly.

PDP-Laban Vice President Raul Lambino stated the party pushed for this due to widespread clamor for a continuation of the programs started by the Duterte administration.

However, PDP-Laban executive director Ronwald F. Munsayac asserted that the national council meeting violated the party charter as it was not properly coordinated with party president Senator Emmanuel "Manny" D. Pacquiao.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said Duterte is mulling over the nomination and will make his decision based on what he thinks is best for the nation, refuting claims of a planned 'Duterte dynasty'.

Munsayac stated that if President Duterte really wants to run, the whole of PDP-Laban will be supportive of him, and Roque confirmed that Senator Pacquiao is still considered an ally of the administration.

Two administration senators, Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa and Imee Marcos, have expressed support for Duterte's possible vice presidential bid, with Senator Marcos stating that if Duterte runs for VP, the election would be over.

Senator Panfilo Lacson commented that Duterte is qualified to run for VP and could likely win, but only God knows if he will.

If Duterte declines the party's call, PDP-Laban will select another standard bearer, with any party member eligible to run.
