Severe Tropical Storm Nika to bring storm surges in Luzon provinces

Severe Tropical Storm Nika is projected to cause storm surges in several coastal provinces across Luzon.

The Ilocos Region Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has directed local disaster offices to implement precautionary measures, including preemptive evacuations in high-risk areas.

Provinces in Cagayan and Ilocos Norte may experience significant storm surges of 2.1 to 3 meters, potentially causing moderate to severe damage.

Coastal communities in Aurora, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes are forecast to have storm surges of 1 to 2 meters, leading to minimal to moderate damage.

Specific municipalities in Ilocos Norte such as Bangui, Burgos, and Pagudpud are at risk of higher storm surges.

In Ilocos Norte, municipalities like Bacarra, Badoc, Currimao, Laoag City, Paoay, and Pasuquin are warned of moderate to high-risk storm surges.

Other areas in Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan are also expected to experience an estimated storm surge of one to two meters.
