Senators hit Duterte for disrespecting Congress

Senators criticized President Rodrigo Duterte for his lack of respect for a co-equal government branch.

Duterte previously stated that people should not believe congressional investigations, particularly after the Senate questioned Health officials regarding alleged misuse of pandemic funds.

Senator Richard Gordon advised the President to show a little respect, noting that many laws beneficial to the public originated from Senate inquiries.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III mentioned he would send Duterte the Senate report on the PhilHealth investigation, as most of Duterte's appointed officers had pending cases or were removed due to Senate investigations.

Senator Panfilo Lacson affirmed that numerous laws lucrative to the people have been passed because of congressional inquiries and investigations.

Congress holds investigations in aid of legislation, with the power to recommend the prosecution of officials and measures to prevent corruption.
