Senate hopefuls vow to fight fake news

Senate candidates from the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas slate vowed to push for stronger legislation and enforcement against fake news and online deception.

Former Senate president Vicente Sotto III stated that refiling an anti-fake news and anti-fake content law with penalties for creators would be among his priority legislative measures.

Senator Francis Tolentino expressed his support for initiatives that uncover truth and encourage responsible journalism while upholding freedom of speech and the press, noting he was recently a victim of false reports.

Makati City Mayor Abby Binay emphasized the need for stronger enforcement to complement legislation, stating that creators of fake news are emboldened by a lack of repercussions.
