Gatchalian backs NBI probe on fake news vloggers and trolls

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian supports the National Bureau of Investigation's (NBI) probe into vloggers and online trolls spreading fake news.

Gatchalian believes government intervention is necessary due to the increasing reliance on social media for information.

He emphasized that disinformation poses a significant threat to public trust and unity.

The senator urged the NBI to file charges against those who deliberately spread polarizing and democratically undermining false information.

NBI Director Jaime Santiago noted the worsening online attacks and announced that cases would soon be filed against identified individuals.

Among those targeted is Maharlika, a US-based vlogger, who may face charges for violating anti-cybercrime laws and inciting sedition.

Santiago also mentioned social media posts attributed to former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque that allegedly encourage a "people power" movement.
