Bong Revilla seeks Senate review of repatriation efforts for OFWs
Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. has filed Senate Resolution 448, calling for a Senate inquiry into the government's repatriation process for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The resolution aims to identify and address loopholes in repatriation plans and expedite the process for OFWs facing financial, employment, and emotional anxieties.
The Department of Labor and Employment projects the return of 200,000 OFWs from June to August, while the Department of the Interior and Local Government estimates around 300,000 OFWs will come home by the end of 2020.
Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana stated that over 50,000 Filipino migrant workers have already been repatriated.
To facilitate repatriation, international airports outside Metro Manila will be reopened to receive OFWs.
