Sen. Poe backs state of calamity for COVID-19 response

Senator Grace Poe supports President Duterte's declaration of a state of calamity to bolster the government's response to the COVID-19 crisis.

Poe stated that placing the country under a state of calamity will enable a more intensified response from both national and local government units.

She emphasized the necessity of this declaration to enhance relief and emergency efforts aimed at containing the outbreak and easing the burden on frontliners and citizens.

The senator urged the government to ensure proper allocation of emergency funds, prioritizing hospital equipment, protective gear for healthcare workers, and the procurement of testing kits.

Poe highlighted the need for substantial funding not only to combat the disease but also to provide necessary assistance to the public.

The declaration allows for the utilization of quick response funds and the reprogramming of funds for infrastructure improvements.

As of Wednesday, the Philippines reported 202 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 17 deaths, and 7 recoveries.

An enhanced community quarantine is currently in effect over Luzon to curb the spread of the virus.
