Search for missing sabungeros in Taal Lake halted due to volcano eruptions and poor visibility

The search for missing sabungeros at Taal Lake has been temporarily halted due to the recent eruptions of Taal Volcano, deteriorating weather conditions, and poor underwater visibility.

Department of Justice spokesperson Polo Martinez confirmed that the Philippine Coast Guard suspended operations and that search units are on standby to resume once weather conditions improve.

Taal Volcano experienced three minor eruptions over the weekend, accompanied by numerous volcanic earthquakes.

As of October 26, authorities have recovered 981 bones from Taal Lake, including 887 human skeletal fragments collected between July 10 and October 12, and three sets of human remains totaling 264 bones.

The search was initiated on July 10 following claims by a whistleblower that missing individuals were killed and disposed of in Taal Lake.

Murder complaints filed by the families of the missing individuals against tycoon Atong Ang and several others have been submitted for resolution.
