981 bones recovered in Taal Lake, 887 confirmed human

The search for missing cockfighting enthusiasts in Taal Lake has resulted in the recovery of 981 bones, with 887 confirmed as human remains.

These bones were found in sacks attached to sinkers during 35 out of 60 operations conducted by the Philippine Coast Guard between July 10 and October 12, 2025.

The recovered remains also include three sets of human remains found at a cemetery.

Department of Justice Spokesperson Polo Martinez stated that conclusive DNA results are necessary to confirm if the bones belong to the missing sabungeros.

Authorities have collected 33 DNA samples from families of the missing individuals for cross-matching, but no positive results have been reported yet.

A preliminary investigation into criminal cases, including murder and kidnapping, filed against businessman Charlie "Atong" Ang and others has been concluded by a DOJ panel of prosecutors.
