Rep. Sandro Marcos elected House Majority Leader

Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Alexander "Sandro" Marcos has been elected as the new Majority Leader of the House of Representatives during the opening of the 20th Congress' first regular session.

The election of Marcos, son of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., to the majority leadership post was approved by House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez without any objections.

Marcos succeeds former Zamboanga Rep. Manuel Jose Dalipe, who held the position during the 19th Congress.

Quezon 2nd District Rep. David "Jay-jay" Suarez was also elected as senior deputy speaker, replacing Aurelio Gonzales Jr.

Both Dalipe and Gonzales were term-limited and could not seek re-election.

Several other lawmakers were also appointed as deputy speakers, including Janette Garin, Yasser Alonto Balindong, Paolo Ortega V, Jefferson Khonghun, Kristine Singson Meehan, Ronaldo Puno, Faustino Dy III, Ferjenel Biron, and Raymond Democrito Mendoza.
