SAF, soldiers deployed to enforce quarantine in Cebu City

Police Lt. Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar stated that the deployment of the Special Action Force (SAF) and soldiers has been effective in enforcing quarantine rules, noting a significant decrease in quarantine violators in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon.

In Cebu City, which was reverted to Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) due to rising COVID-19 cases, around 150 SAF commandos were deployed to strictly enforce guidelines.

The military's Central Command also deployed soldiers and committed additional assets to support ECQ enforcement in Cebu City.

Eleazar observed that the presence of SAF commandos in Cebu City has reduced unnecessary street movement.

He expressed confidence that Cebu City residents will sustain compliance with quarantine rules, especially with the intensified visibility of SAF troopers.

Eleazar clarified that the deployment is not meant to bully residents but to compel compliance from those who disregard quarantine rules and to ensure observance of health protocols like mask-wearing and physical distancing.
