Runway repairs cause flight delays at Mactan-Cebu airport

Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) experienced significant flight delays on Saturday afternoon due to urgent repairs on its primary runway caused by "loose asphalt."

Airport General Manager Julius Neri stated that 89 flights, comprising 77 domestic and 12 international, were affected by the disruption.

Flight operations were temporarily shifted to MCIA's secondary runway while repairs were ongoing, with operations resuming at 6 p.m. on the secondary runway.

The main runway was reopened at 7:30 p.m., and Neri expressed confidence that the incident will not recur.

Aboitiz InfraCapital, the airport operator, apologized for the inconvenience and advised affected passengers to coordinate with their respective airline companies for rebooking.
