Dy elected new House Speaker, Marcos says leadership changes on hold until after budget approval

Isabela Representative Faustino "Bojie" Dy III was elected as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives with 253 votes following the resignation of Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.

House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos stated that committee chairmanships will remain unchanged until after the 2026 national budget is approved on October 8 to avoid disrupting legislative proceedings.

Marcos further emphasized that no changes in the House leadership composition are needed at the moment due to the ongoing budget deliberations, stating that the budget is the most important law of the country.

Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco believes that new Speaker Dy should be given a free hand to choose his team and make leadership adjustments after the upcoming recess.

The leadership change is viewed by Senate Deputy Majority Leader JV Ejercito as a necessary "reboot" for the House, though Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero urged that accountability for unresolved corruption issues should not be overlooked.

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon has expressed openness to a proposal for the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to cut its costs on projects by as much as 10 percent, as proposed by Batangas 1st District Rep. Leandro Leviste.
