Repatriated OFW dies of heart attack in Iloilo, probe sought

A 39-year-old male repatriated overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Anilao, Iloilo, who returned from Spain in March, has died of heart attack.

He tested positive for COVID-19 on June 2 and was admitted to the Western Visayas Sanitarium, a COVID-referral hospital for mild and moderate cases.

His death was recorded on Saturday, June 6, and his death certificate cited acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) as the cause, with pneumonia also noted.

The OFW was found unresponsive in the hospital's restroom, suggesting the heart attack occurred while he was there.

The local government of Anilao has requested an investigation into the OFW's death from the Western Visayas Sanitarium.

This is the first COVID-19 death in Western Visayas in over a month, bringing the region's total fatalities to 11, with Iloilo province having five deaths.
