Rep. Alvarez: NPA must hold mine blast perpetrators accountable

Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez stated that the Communist Party of the Philippines and the New People's Army must hold accountable those responsible for the anti-personnel mine blast that killed Kieth Absalon and his cousin.

Alvarez emphasized that an apology from the NPA is insufficient without the perpetrators facing justice and prosecution.

He highlighted that the insurgency has led to the deaths of civilians, including a promising football player.

The lawmaker asserted that allowing the perpetrators to face the courts is crucial for the Absalon family and the nation to begin the grieving process.

Alvarez suggested that the NPA should be considered as harboring criminals until accountability is established.

He also pointed out that the concentration of wealth due to a centralized government structure is a root cause of the insurgency.

Alvarez advocated for 'true federalism' as a means to strengthen localities and regions, which he believes can bring peace and progress to the country.
