Remulla's Ombudsman bid threatened by Marcos' complaint

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla's bid to become the next Ombudsman is potentially jeopardized by a pending complaint filed against him by Senator Imee Marcos.

Remulla asked the Office of the Ombudsman to quickly decide on the complaint, which he needs cleared before the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) finalizes its candidate list.

Senator Marcos filed criminal and administrative complaints against Remulla and other officials for allowing the International Criminal Court to proceed with arrest warrants against former president Rodrigo Duterte.

She also alleged that Remulla attempted to pressure Acting Ombudsman Dante Vargas into dismissing the case.

Remulla stated he was doing his job, does not believe it amounts to corruption, and wants to help stop corruption and believes in accountability.

He added, "Ako naman kasi, I will go where it takes me, and I had to throw my hat in because I believe the impunity of corruption has to stop."
