Remulla: Marcos Jr. drug war effective, avoids killings

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla stated that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s anti-drug campaign is effective and operates without resorting to killings, emphasizing accountability, science, and the rule of law.

He noted that law enforcement agencies have arrested over 153,000 individuals for drug-related offenses and seized more than PHP80 billion worth of drugs from July 2022 to June 2025.

Remulla asserted that killing is unnecessary for success in the anti-drug campaign and highlighted a policy shift away from the previous administration's alleged reward-based system, which he claimed incentivized killings and corruption.

He pointed to the DILG's prioritization of eliminating corrupt practices within the police force, such as hoarding, submitting only a fraction of seized drugs, and recycling the rest back into the market.

Remulla mentioned that in the first half of the Marcos administration, law enforcement agencies have nearly surpassed the accomplishments of the six-year drug war under former president Rodrigo Duterte.
