Quezon City reports 5 firework injuries, reiterates ban

Quezon City has reported five firework-related injuries as of Saturday, prompting the local government to reiterate its strict prohibition on the use of firecrackers in private areas.

Three new victims were added to the injury count on Friday, with incidents occurring in Barangays Holy Spirit, Kaligayan, and San Bartolome.

Despite the increase, the current injury tally is 62% lower compared to the same period in the previous year.

The city ordinance strictly bans firecracker use in private residences and buildings, allowing it only in public settings with valid permits from the Department of Public Order and Safety and clearance from the Bureau of Fire Protection.

Manufacturing firecrackers is also prohibited under City Ordinance No. 3233, with only licensed stores permitted to sell fireworks.

Minors are expressly forbidden from using firecrackers, and proper disposal of fireworks must be observed.

Violators face penalties ranging from fines of P1,000 to P5,000 or imprisonment of three months to one year.
