PDLs to be COVID-19 tested before commitment to QC Jail – Belmonte
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has mandated that all persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) must undergo COVID-19 testing before being committed to detention facilities in the city.
This new guideline, established through Executive Order No. 30, aims to prevent the spread of the virus within jail and police precinct facilities.
PDLs committed by courts will be tested by the Quezon City Health Department (QCHD) in a separate quarantine facility while awaiting results.
Those who test negative will be transferred to the Quezon City Jail (QCJ), while positive individuals will remain in quarantine for treatment or be moved as directed by the QCHD.
Arrested individuals will also undergo mandatory medical examinations, and the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) will immediately notify the QCHD if COVID-19 testing is deemed necessary.
The order also encourages the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and QCPD to conduct regular health monitoring of PDLs and report any suspected COVID-19 symptoms to the QCHD.
