PSC hikes athlete and coach allowance to P10,000

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Patrick Gregorio announced a P5,000 monthly allowance increase for national athletes and coaches, which is the first such hike since 2016.

This initiative aims for a minimum P10,000 stipend starting in August, with elite athletes like Carlos Yulo and Nesthy Petecio currently receiving around P50,000.

National sports association (NSA) executives have rallied behind Gregorio, praising his athlete-centered approach and quick action.

Other PSC priorities under Gregorio include simplifying tracksuit procurement, installing a new concessionaire, establishing a 24/7 help desk, approving the Philippine Sports Training Center's IRR, and streamlining allowance disbursement.

Gregorio emphasized that the allowance hike is a heartfelt decision, not a political move, and aligns with President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s mission to care for national athletes.
