PPA terminates MAC Builders contract for Zamboanga Port PTB project due to delays

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) terminated the contract with MAC Builders, Inc. for the Zamboanga Port Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) project, effective September 4, due to prolonged delays and design misalignment with current needs.

PPA Assistant General Manager James J. Gantalao cited that the original 2021 design no longer meets operational requirements, a decision influenced by concerns raised through social media.

The project, initiated in 2021, faced unavoidable delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, inclement weather, location-specific challenges, and evolving design considerations.

Gantalao assured that MAC Builders had received only 18 percent of the total contract price, leaving adequate funds for project completion.

Zamboanga is a vital and strategic gateway for passenger and cargo traffic in Mindanao, connecting various provinces and neighboring ASEAN countries.
