PNPA extends lockdown after 232 cadets test positive for COVID-19

The Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) has extended its lockdown until September 30 due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

A total of 232 PNPA cadets and 11 personnel tested positive for the virus following a swabbing test on September 8.

Of the infected cadets, 66 are experiencing mild symptoms while the rest are asymptomatic.

Around 190 other cadets are being monitored for possible infection.

The infected individuals are under strict monitoring in the academy's quarantine and isolation facilities.

PNPA Director Police Major General Gilberto Cruz assured families that the cadets are receiving care, with their health as the academy's priority.

The extended lockdown is a precautionary measure involving a 14-day isolation period plus another seven days, as recommended by the academy's health doctor.

The academy recorded its first two COVID-19 cases in July, prompting stricter safety protocols including the current lockdown and a ban on visitors.
