PNP vows zero tolerance after 8 Bacoor cops arrested for alleged rape, robbery

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has vowed "zero tolerance" for misconduct after eight Bacoor City policemen were arrested for allegedly raping and robbing a Grade 9 student.

Acting PNP Chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. ordered a probe into the incident and emphasized that the organization would not tolerate any form of abuse or misconduct from its personnel.

Nartatez stated that those who deviate from the standards of Service, Honor, and Justice will face swift and appropriate legal consequences.

The head of the Police Drug Enforcement Group or PDEG-Special Operations Unit in Calabarzon was also relieved from his post under the principle of command responsibility.

Authorities are currently conducting a manhunt for six other individuals who remain at large in connection with the crime.

The National Police Commission (Napolcom) has deployed a separate four-man investigation team to look into the incident, with a vice commissioner emphasizing the need for accountability to protect the PNP's reputation.

PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño stated that the case has two conflicting accounts: a legitimate anti-drug sting and the alleged rape and robbery incident.
