PNP has leads on ex-BuCor chief Bantag whereabouts

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III stated that authorities have leads on the whereabouts of former Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Gerald Bantag, who is facing murder charges.

Torre confirmed that there are no records indicating Bantag has left the country and that intelligence operations are actively underway to track him down.

He assured that resources are being allocated to find and arrest Bantag, who has been evading arrest since being tagged as the alleged mastermind behind the killing of journalist Percival "Percy Lapid" Mabasa.

Bantag has been wanted by Philippine courts since 2023 for his alleged involvement in the 2022 murder.

PNP Chief Torre also vowed to pursue other high-profile fugitives, including former Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque and former Police Lieutenant Colonel Rafael Dumlao III.

These apprehension efforts are part of an ongoing campaign led by Torre since his time with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
