PNP probes Australian suspects' possible PH visit linked to Sydney shooting

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is investigating reports that the two suspects linked to the Bondi Beach mass shooting in Sydney, Australia, visited the Philippines recently.

PNP acting chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. confirmed that investigators are examining the places the suspects visited, the individuals they interacted with, and their accommodations during their stay in the country to determine the reason for their travel.

The PNP is also coordinating with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for information-sharing and threat assessment.

The attack resulted in the deaths of 15 people.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated that the perpetrators appeared to be motivated by "Islamic State ideology," and two homemade Islamic State flags were found in a vehicle used by one of the men.
