Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil vowed to eradicate illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) within the remaining months of 2024.
This statement follows a raid on a major scam hub in Manila, dubbed the "mother of all scam hubs," located in the 40-story Century Peak Tower on Adriatico Street in Ermita.
The operation, conducted by the PNP-Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG), led to the arrest of 69 foreign nationals allegedly involved in online scams, illegal gambling, and human trafficking.
Marbil emphasized that the PNP-ACG's operation disrupted a significant hub of criminal activity linked to these illicit POGO operations.
He stated that there are two months left to clear the country of illegal POGOs.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared a POGO ban in July and ordered the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation to cease POGO operations by the end of 2024.
The National Capital Region Police Office clarified that the PNP-ACG conducted the raid after the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) distanced itself from the operation.
