PNP intensifies security ops vs PAGs before COC filing

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil has directed all police commanders nationwide to enhance security operations against private armed groups (PAGs) ahead of the October 8 deadline for the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) for the 2025 midterm elections.

Marbil emphasized that the period leading up to the COC filing deadline could heighten political tensions, particularly in provincial and local electoral contests.

The PNP will intensify security measures in traditional election hotspots, including increased police visibility, the establishment of strategic checkpoints, and strengthened intelligence monitoring.

Special attention is being given to regions with reported increased activity from armed groups and criminal elements.

Marbil assured that all necessary precautions are in place, with police units nationwide on high alert and prepared to respond swiftly.

He encouraged the public to promptly report suspicious activities to authorities to ensure a peaceful and orderly election process.

Marbil also warned that severe sanctions will be imposed on police officers found engaging in political activities, as the PNP remains a nonpartisan institution.
