PNP, DPWH, LGUs to secure infrastructure project inspections

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has directed its regional offices to collaborate with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and local government units (LGUs) to ensure the security of inspection teams examining infrastructure projects.

This initiative is in response to a directive from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) aimed at safeguarding DPWH officials investigating potential irregularities in flood control projects.

PNP Acting Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. affirmed the commitment of all PNP units to protect flood control projects, emphasizing their importance in community safety.

The government's intensified scrutiny of flood control projects was prompted by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s pronouncement during his State of the Nation Address in July, following severe flooding caused by the southwest monsoon and recent typhoons.

Specifically, Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) is providing security assistance to DPWH personnel conducting inspections of flood control projects across Central Luzon.

PRO3 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio I. Peñones Jr. ordered the security detail to accompany DPWH teams as they assess the progress and quality of ongoing flood mitigation infrastructure.

Peñones stated that these projects are vital to disaster preparedness and it is their responsibility to ensure the safety of those working on them.
