Metro Manila mayors demand mandatory consultation for national infrastructure projects

Metro Manila mayors are calling for mandatory consultation with local government units (LGUs) before national government agencies commence infrastructure projects within their jurisdictions.

The Metro Manila Council (MMC) passed a resolution ensuring coordination for all public works, not solely flood control measures.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora stated that some national projects have been started without prior notification to local officials, hindering effective management and accountability.

The MMC resolution also backs President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s decision to reinstate a policy requiring LGUs to officially accept national government projects before they are deemed complete.

This move by the MMC comes amid various investigations into "ghost projects" led by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) nationwide.

Zamora emphasized that any national agency wishing to implement infrastructure projects in Metro Manila cities must coordinate with LGUs and obtain their approval.
