PNP: Chinese-related crimes in Philippines isolated for China but ‘concerning’ for us
The Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed an increase in casino-related kidnapping incidents, with 73 cases reported from 2017 to 2020 involving 80 Chinese nationals.
All 142 suspects apprehended in these cases were also Chinese nationals.
The number of casino-related kidnappings significantly increased in 2019, with 38 incidents recorded.
Additionally, nine kidnapping incidents related to Philippine offshore gaming operations were reported in 2019, with two more occurring in early 2020.
PNP Deputy Chief for Operations Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar stated that while the Chinese Embassy may consider these incidents "isolated," they are concerning to law enforcers.
He also noted that seven homicide incidents involving Chinese nationals were recorded in 2019.
