PNP chief warns against self-medication for COVID-19

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar urged personnel not to self-medicate if they contract COVID-19.

This warning follows the death of an unvaccinated 43-year-old police sergeant in Northern Metro Manila who succumbed to acute respiratory failure.

The sergeant first experienced loss of taste and smell on August 3, which led him to take a Rapid Antigen Test that yielded a positive result.

He subsequently underwent an RT-PCR test which also confirmed his infection and he was taken to a quarantine facility.

Despite experiencing mild symptoms, he initially resorted to self-medication without relief before seeking medical intervention.

He died on August 7, becoming the 87th COVID-19 fatality in the police organization.

Eleazar assured the bereaved family of financial assistance and prompt release of death benefits.
