PNP probes AI-generated Marcos Jr. video promoting scam

The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) is investigating an artificial intelligence (AI)-generated video featuring President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. promoting a fraudulent investment platform.

The fabricated video falsely claims to be a joint venture between the Philippine government and Elon Musk.

PNP-ACG Director Brig. Gen. Bernard Yang confirmed the ongoing investigation and stated that the social media platform hosting the video has been notified.

Authorities are actively coordinating with the social media platform to preserve data and identify the individuals responsible.

Yang revealed that the PNP ACG has identified individuals behind these AI scam videos targeting high-profile personalities, including businessmen, but cannot publicize details due to ongoing case build-up.

The PNP ACG is in the process of applying for a cyber warrant in one case involving previous deepfakes targeting other high-profile personalities.
