PNP-ACG nabs 2 for selling fake money online

The Philippine National Police's Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) arrested two men, identified by aliases "Usa," 18, and "Agila," 30, in Las Piñas City for selling counterfeit money online.

The operation was a response to a report from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) about the online sale of fake banknotes.

During the entrapment on Wednesday, authorities caught one suspect advertising a P1,000 counterfeit bill for P150 on social media.

Police seized 150 fake P1,000 bills, with a face value of P22,500, that were being sold during the operation.

The suspects are facing charges for illegal possession and use of counterfeit currency under Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code and the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

PNP-ACG chief Police Brigadier General Bernard Yang warned that the circulation of fake money online undermines the financial system and exploits citizens.
