PN deploys 32 DRRTs for Taal eruption relief operations

The Philippine Navy (PN) has deployed 32 disaster risk reduction teams (DRRTs) from Manila and Cavite to aid in relief operations for communities affected by the Taal Volcano eruption.

The DRRTs are tasked to utilize all available assets to assist families impacted by the calamity, including humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations.

On Friday, the PN distributed relief packs containing rice, sardines, noodles, hygiene kits, blankets, surgical masks, and bottled water to around a thousand residents in Balayan, Batangas.

The contingent included personnel from the Civil Military Operations Group, Marine Combat Service Support Battalion, and Naval Reserve Command, and collaborated with NGOs Damayang Pinoy-Taal and Yes Pinoy Foundation.

Notable reservists, Master Sergeant Dingdong Dantes and PO3 Rocco Nacino, were part of the contingent.

As of Saturday morning, 22,472 families (96,061 individuals) in Batangas, Cavite, and Laguna have been affected by the Taal eruption, with many in evacuation centers and others still trapped.

Alert Level 4 remains in effect over Taal Volcano, indicating the possibility of a hazardous explosive eruption.
