PISTON to hold nationwide strike on Sept 18 over DPWH corruption allegations

Transport group PISTON will stage a nationwide transport strike on Thursday, September 18, to protest alleged corruption within the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) concerning flood control projects.

The strike aims to demand accountability from officials and contractors accused of misusing public funds.

PISTON stated, "Hearings and investigations are not enough. Someone should be held accountable. Someone should be jailed."

The group highlighted the substantial taxes paid by jeepney drivers and mototaxi riders, whose "taxes are being stolen!"

Malacañang acknowledged President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. respects the freedom of expression of groups protesting irregularities in government flood control projects.

Several groups have slammed the alleged squandering of billions of pesos due to "ghost" and "substandard" flood control projects, prompting Congress to conduct investigations.

PISTON also called on the public to join a massive protest with other groups on September 21 at Luneta Park, Manila.
