PHIVOLCS records over 9,000 aftershocks after M6.9 quake in Cebu

As of Wednesday morning, PHIVOLCS has recorded 9,108 aftershocks following the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Bogo City, Cebu on September 30.

The strongest aftershock recorded to date was a magnitude 5.1, and 38 of the tremors were felt by residents.

PHIVOLCS confirmed a coastal uplift in Barangay Nailon, Bogo City, where the shoreline rose by about a meter due to movement along the Bogo Bay Fault.

The magnitude 6.9-magnitude quake that struck Cebu on Sept. 30 left at least 72 people dead, more than 550 injured, and affected around 611,000 residents across Northern Cebu.

PHIVOLCS director Dr. Teresito Bacolcol advised residents in affected areas to consult experts before returning to their homes for their safety and to be wary of ground ruptures.
