1,387 aftershocks recorded following M7.4 quake in Davao Oriental

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has recorded 1,387 aftershocks following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake in Manay, Davao Oriental on October 10.

Of the total aftershocks, 19 have been felt by residents.

The death toll remains at nine, with 403 people injured.

A total of 889,000 people were affected, and 12,768 individuals are currently staying in evacuation centers.

Damage to 2,575 houses was reported, with 2,231 partially damaged and 344 completely destroyed.

Infrastructure sustained damages amounting to P100 million.

PHIVOLCS chief Dr. Teresito Bacolcol advised affected residents to seek expert advice before returning to their homes due to potential structural damage from aftershocks.

He also reassured that aftershocks as strong as the original earthquake were unlikely.
